2010 December Newsletter

Well ladies, it is finely here. DECEMBER! More time to spend with family and friends. The weather is cold and wet so we might as well stay inside and paint.

The November paint-in went well although our time had to be made short, and I apologize for that. We had a mix-up with the schedule and the club house was booked for two different things for the same day. It all worked out in the end. I want to thank June for doing such a great job of teaching us the wonderful painting technique of Russian painting. We didn't have much time but I think most of us learned a lot. Hopefully we can get June to come back next year and we can try it again when we have more time.

Remember the Christmas party on the 11th at Maddox's restaurant in Brigham City on Hwy 89 at 11 am. The cost is $14.00. The ugly sweater contest is canceled until a later time. Also we have a couple of really nice prizes for the “looser raffle ticket” drawing, but you have to be present to WIN if your name is drawn. Hope to see you all there, we should have a great time. Also we will be having an “Ornament Exchange” at the Christmas party.

Those running for 2011 Chapter officers are:
   Nancy Coley - President
  Glenda Mitchell - Vice-President
  Eileen Barnard - Vice-President
  Lydia Gossett - Secretary
  Gloria Eldridge - Treasurer
  Tirzah Probasco - Seminars
Mickey Hutchinson - Historian and Grants
Terry Pulver and Pat Reeder will be in charge of the Blog

If there is someone that you would like to nominate for an office or run yourself please call me or Pat Reeder and let us know. We need to know before the 11th of December.

I hope that we can get more members and get some of our old members back.

Hope to see all of you at the Christmas party. Have a wonderful Christmas and a safe New Year.

Glenda

Painting tip: Use a small roller to base coat your project and you will have a nice smooth surface to paint on. You can also multi color slip slap other colors on to add a cool background. Keep your roller in a zip lock bag and it will keep for a very long time.

2010 November Newsletter

Smell the Turkey? (Cooking, not alive HA! HA!)

Well, time to put the skeletons and coffins away and bring out the pumpkins and turkeys. Time to spend with family and friends. FRIENDS? Hey that's us. The November paint in should be extra fun this year. We will be painting a Russian floral with June Skollingsberg and having a great Auction. We have a lot of very talented ladies in the chapter and some of them have donated beautiful items. It's not too late to get your handmade item in to be auctioned off. You can even bring it to the paint-in. We will start the auction at 12:00 noon so if you can't make it to paint, please drop by for the fun of the auction. If you don't have Golden Dollars or don't have enough golden dollars, you can buy them for .50 on the dollar. Any money that we collect will be donated to a local charity. Please get involved in your painting chapter. We need more members and we need the old members to come and paint.

Oct. paint-in went well. Glenna Nielsen did a great job on the Fairy plate. It was a fun project to do. We learned more about dry brushing and glazing. If you missed the class, you missed a good one. A big thank you to Glenna for coming the long way from Salt Lake to teach we really appreciate it. She is a wonderful teacher and we're lucky to get her.

Get ready for a fun Christmas party coming next month. We will have great food and wonderful chatter with friends. There will be some really nice prizes for the “looser raffle ticket” drawing. Oh, and don't forget to get your “UGLY SWEATER” ready. Remember the uglier the better.

Ladies, we need you to run for an office. PLEASE get involved with YOUR chapter. Help make the discussions on what we paint for seminars and what we do for the monthly paint-in and who we get to teach the seminars and paint-ins. It's not too late to show your support by running for an office.

A little tip: Don't over use them. Change to a new brush of the same size after 2-3 hours of use. Clean them well and allow them to rest. Do not use them again until they are dry.
Tip from Della Wetterman.

Hope to see you at the paint-in Auction on the 20th.

Happy Painting and Happy Thanksgiving

Glenda

2010 October Newsletter

Happy Fall Yall,

Well I think it's finely here. FALL. No more HOT weather. The leaves are changing color and you know that means? Time To Paint. The September class went well. I hope that everyone had a good time and and enjoyed painting their banner. We had a few setbacks, but everyone worked through them. I really enjoyed teaching the "Legend Of Fall" class. It was a fun banner to do.

Now it's October and time for our next great painting project, "Witches and Blue Faeries Plate", a Bobbie Takashima pattern that will be taught by Glenna Nielson on October 9th. Hope to see you all there.

Remember to bring a raffle item and get extra Golden Dollars for the November Auction. You will also get a Golden Dollar for just showing up, or if you bring a snack or a guest. We have a lot of really nice things that our members have made, but it's not too late for you to make a little something to donate for the auction. The more items we have the more fun we will have. If you can't come to the Paint-in, you can come just for the auction at 12:00 noon. Remember, if you don't have enough Golden Dollars, you can use cash (.50 on the dollar) and all the money that we get will go to a local charity.

Also be thinking about running for an office for next year. Get involved with the Chapter by being a President, Vice-President or any other officer. Help to make the decisions for the Chapter events.

Before you know it the Christ:mas party will be here. Remember to pull out those Christmas sweaters and MAKE THEM UGLY!!! The cost of the Christmas Party will be around $14.00 per person. We will have games and prizes, ugly sweater contest, and lots good food, not to mention lots of friends to talk to. Hope to see you there.

Have a great Fall and keep paining,

Glenda

Preparation: Basecoat and seal the surface with Black and Sealer mixed together, then another coat of Black. Dry. Sand lightly, wipe it. Then casually slip-slap some Ultra blue Deep over the center of the design and lightly around the outside, then do the same with Pacific Blue. This is just to give a broken background and interest to the piece—do not overdue it, since we still need the black to show through. Dry, then transfer pattern. (Because I used the 16 inch plate, the pattern is slightly to big where the Blue Fairies go, but it does fit the center, I just moved the fairies a little to adjust for it.)

Glenda did a great job teaching the leaf man banner. The piece was done on Roc-lon (a fabric used to line drapes). Very durable, it has a nice texture to paint on and does not need to be hemmed.

We all enjoyed the class and the wonderful raffle prizes. Glenda donated some of her beautiful table runners and a lovely handbag. There were other wonderful prizes too.

The class ended at 2:00 pm.

2010 September Newsletter

Hi Ladies,

I guess we are in the “dog days of summer”. It’s been a little hot and windy but most of the time it is beautiful. Our Mystery at Checkered Board Farm Mystery-Paint-in was a lot of fun. Our mystery teacher was Betty Jo Evens from the Boise chapter. She is a great teacher, very warm and positive. The tray we painted turned out very nice. We shared a tasteful lunch, a lot of raffle prizes and a few special gifts. Thank you to everyone who helped put this Paint-in together with a special “Thank You” to Nancy Coley and Tirzah Probasco who were in charge. While I’m thinking about this, the initials MFB were not correct. They were false clue to throw you off as we heard some of you were trying to guess. MFB are my father’s initials.

On August 25th, I sent an email to the GSDP Board announcing my resignation of president, effective immediately. It became time to get my life in order and make some hard decisions. Continuing to serve as president became one of the activities I had to give up. I’m not dropping out of the Chapter, I just can’t serve on the Board any more. Glenda Mitchell, 1st Vice President will serve as president for the balance of the year. Please support her. It has been my pleasure to serve on the board for the past 3 ½ years, I’ll see you soon at a monthly paint-in.

CarolAnn

Message from our New President
Well ladies there have been a few changes in the Chapter's Officer lineup. CarolAnn has decided to resign and I will be the acting President of GSDP for the remainder of the year. I only hope that I can do as good of a job in the next four months as CarolAnn has done for the the past eight.

The Mystery Paint-in was a big success. Betty Jo Evans was our teacher. She taught us a lot about dry brushing. The project was really fun, so if you missed it, you missed a great time. We had a wonderful lunch and great raffle prizes. I think everyone had a good time. I also want to thank everyone for all their hard work that got the Mystery Paint-in going and made it a success.

Fall is coming fast and winter will be here before we know it, so we need to be thinking of the November Paint-in and the Golden Dollar Auction that we will have then. If you have not been able to collect enough Golden Dollars, you can still participate in the auction. We will be selling Golden Dollars for fifty cents each. All the proceeds will go to a local charity for Christmas. We have a lot of really nice items that have been donated by some of the members. There is still time to get something that you have made in to one of the Board for the auction. So plan on joining us Saturday, November 20th at noon for the Golden Dollar Auction.

Don't forget to nominate someone for an office for the up coming 2011 election in November. The new officers will be announced at the Christmas party. Pat Reeder is the co-chair on the nomination committee, so when she calls, tell her you would like to run for office. We need some new faces on the board, maybe someone that has never held an office and would like to, or someone that has been an officer in the past that would like to run again.

Also don't forget about the Christmas party. Get out or find an ugly sweater. Or maybe take an old one that you already have and "ugly it up". We will have a great meal, games and a afternoon with friends.

Fall is Near keep painting,

Glenda

Contact Mickey Hutchinson if you would like to paint an angel and donate it to the Festival of Trees in memory of Marie Whitehouse.

CarolAnn then thanked the board members for thier help in planning the Mystery Paint-in.

She thanked the Salt Lake Chapter for the help with the Blog/Newsletter.

In conclusion, CarolAnn asked for one yes answer to the following questions:
1. Is anyone willing to donate a craft for the November auction?
2. Is anyone willing to run for office?
3. Is anyone willing to help the nomination committee?

She then turned the time over to Tirzah who introduced Betty Jo Evans. Betty Jo has been painting for the pass thirty-three years and teaching for twenty-five of those years. She worked for Chroma and is known as the Dry Brush Queen. The class was then turned over to Betty Jo. The mystery project was a metal tray, designed by Jo Sonja.

The raffles were held after our delicious lunch. Nearly everyone won a beautiful prize. After the raffles, Glenda read a mystery story titled, "Checker Board Farm" (where Mr. and Mrs. Claus lived during the summer). Someone had to guess the who, what and where. Everyone received a mystery bag with an item or clue that was mentioned in the story. Every time that item was mentioned, the person with the clue held it up. Glenna Nielsen solved the mystery and received a gift certificate for one free paint-in and surface of their choice. The mystery was, Mrs. Claus was missing and what happened to her? Mrs. Claus was found in the barn where she had been milking the cow, when the cat knocked the milk pail over and in her haste to retrieve the pail Mrs. Claus tripped over the cat, fell and bumped her head. She was found by Frosty the hired hand.

The Mystery Paint-in was in appreciation to all the chapter members. Everyone enjoyed the class and the wonderful teacher. The class ended at 3:30.
