2016 June Newsletter

Hi Painters,

Thought for the Month: It is the month of June, the month of leaves and roses, when pleasant sights salute the eyes, and pleasant scents the noses.”  Nathaniel Parker Willis

Welcome to June. How time flies when you’re painting and having fun. The flowers are beautiful from the wet and cool spring we have had and of course a great preservation of water so far.

Thanks to Gloria for teaching the Yellow Roses Class for our May paint-in. The piece is beautiful and class went very well, as most painters came close or finished their piece during class. Thanks for all who attended making it a successful class and kudos to Gloria for taking your time to teach.

Our July Saturday paint-in will be a community project to make fleece lap throws for the George E. Wahlen Veterans Home in Ogden, Utah. Please come support our Chapter, bring friends, kids, neighbors and plenty of fleece and scissors to help us make these throws for our countries heroes. Before we know it, winter will be here and they will be in need of warm blankets.

We have a great selection of teachers and projects coming up for our Saturday paint-ins and October Seminar. Don’t forget to check out the classes and sign up.

Note on Lois Mueller October Seminar: The cost of the seminar will be $200 for a 3 day seminar. She is actually designing the rosemaling Tine' for our class and an extra mystery piece for Friday. We will be ordering the Tine’s for class. If you plan on attending and purchasing the tine', please contact Tirzah Probasco and secure your place and piece. You can mail your $100.00 down payment to Wendy Ouellette, our Chapter Treasurer.

Have a super and safe month and Happy Painting to all.

Pat

2016 Chapter Service Project
This year the Chapter will again have a donation box for the Food Bank where people can drop in spare change or a dollar or two. You'd be surprised how quickly little bits can add up. There is a lot of need, so we hope everyone will support this effort.

Chapter Board Meetings
The Chapter Board meets the first Friday of the month at 10 am at the Riverdale Senior Center, 4433 S. 900 W. in Riverdale. This is as open meeting and all members are welcome. If you have  ideas and/or issues that you would like the Chapter to address, please come and let the Board know. This is your Chapter and your input is important.

June Business Meeting
There will be a short business meeting preceding the Paint-in. In March we voted on some changes to Bylaws/Standing Rules. We missed one item concerning the annual grant for the President to attend a National Leadership Conference of SDP or a regional convention. With the rising cost of hotels, travel, meals, SDP registration, etc. the Board felt the grant amount should also be raised. Please review the Standing Rules (item 4) on the blog. The change will be noted in red italics.

Raffles
This year we would like to ask all members to bring a NICE raffle item. You will receive two Christmas raffle tickets for your item. Painting supplies like palette paper, brushes, and tracing paper are always welcome as are nice wood or metal surfaces. Other items could include potted plants and candy. If you would like to receive it, it will probably make a good raffle item.

Christmas Raffle

This year at our Christmas Party we will again be having a special raffle. The gift basket includes a tin tea set make by the renowned Canadian tin maker Robert Faulkner. Tickets will be on sale from now until the drawing at the party. The cost is $1.00 per ticket or 6 for $5.00. You do NOT have to be present to win.
