2013 June Newsletter

April showers bring May flowers

Hello Painters,

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother’s Day.

Due to the Memorial Day Weekend we didn't have a lot of attendees at the May UFO class and the prep for Eileen’s June class. But those of us that did attend got our piece done. She will be teaching a pretty orchid piece “Touch of Orient” by Tracy Mareau.

In July Nancy will be teaching a Folk Art Chicken by Rosemary West.

I hope to see all or at least some of you at one or more of the paint classes.

Happy Painting!

Lydia

2013 Paint-ins
The Board would like some input from the Chapter members about next year's Paint-ins and fall Seminar. What kind and style of projects would you like to paint? Who would you like as teachers? Would you willing to teach a class and if so, what would you teach? Please give this some serious thought. We are here for You. Contact any of the Board members with your ideas.

2013 Chapter Service Project
This year again, the Chapter will be continuing the Food Drive as our Community Service Project. Last year was very successful and we hope to do even better this year. Members are urged to bring items for the Food Bank to each Paint-in and Seminar they attend. (See our Food Bank Donations Guideline page for information on acceptable items or go the the Utah Food Bank web site for more information.) There is a lot of need, so we hope everyone will support this effort.

Antique Maroon         Heritage Brick
Antique Gold             Titanium White
Warm White              Asphaltum
Spice Pink                Santa Red
Lamp Black

If you want to change your background colors, you will need two medium value paints that are opaque and a darker shade of color of whatever color you are using on the top.

Additional Supplies:
1. Blue shop towels or an old lint-less t-shirt for paint applicator.
2. Plastic gloves.
3. Krylon Gold Leaf Pen (Eileen will have a couple in class that you can use so don't buy one unless you want to.
4. Brushes: 6 round, 1 brush for shading (floating), Eileen used a 1/2 inch angular, and a rigger if you have one. If not, a small liner will do fine for the small branches on the tree.
5. Stylus

Prep Instructions:
Surface has a Texture Crackle finish that must be completely dry before painting. Eileen will be showing us this prep in May, so if you plan on doing this project, it would be to your advantage to come to the May Paint-in.

Sand and seal the wood. Let dry. This is the part we will do in the May prep class: Apply DecoArt's Texture Crackle in thin, small overlapping patches until the surface is covered using a wide blade pallet knife. If you do not have DecoArt's Texture crackle, you may also use JoSonja's. You can put some Crackle Medium on top of the Texture Crackle and it will give you basically the same effect as the DecoArt brand. If you are doing this, it is recommend that you not put any crackle where we will be painting the orchids.

Let this dry overnight and then lightly sand again.

The Paint-in will be held at the Westwood Village Clubhouse (1111 N. 2000 W., Farr West, UT).Take I-15 #346 and go north on 2000 W/UT-126 0.6 of mile. The Clubhouse is on the west side of the street with parking on the west side of the building.
