2010 January Newsletter

Hello Ladies,

Your 2010 board was announced at the Christmas Party, for those who missed a fun time your officers are: President - me, CarolAnn Smith, First Vice President - Glenda Mitchell, Second Vice President - Nancy Coley, Secretary - Lydia Gossett, Treasurer - Gloria Eldridge and Terry Pulver as Newsletter/Web Master. Appointed positions will be announced in our February Newsletter. So, if you want to volunteer let me know. I am excited to get going and try new ideas. Since I am the newbie here, suggestions for projects, service opportunities or activities are welcome. We all need to do our part in keeping the Chapter strong, fun and something we are all proud of.

I hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year celebration. This is a new decade offering,a new beginning, new projects and most of all new fun.

Speaking of fun, boy did we have a great time at our annual Christmas party. LeeAnn Gossett prepared the best mouth watering Prime Rib, creamy mashed potatoes and the yummiest Green Pear Salad. As for the cheese cake, well how do I describe it? It was beautiful to look at and delightful to eat. I think a lot of diet plans were put away for another day. We played numerous games including Trivia that required us to hum and/or count on our fingers and toes for answers and put Drummers Boys, Lords a-Leaping, Gold Rings and so forth for 'The Twelve Days of Christmas' in correct order. Bingo and several other fun games were played. Prizes were fantastic! LeeAnn even gave a quiz on the history of Tole painting. Do you know the history? We didn't. The last game, well look at the picture you will see how silly we were. What a hoot! Rebecca handed out Chapter gifts to all in attendance. After thanking the 2009 board members she gave them their charms. The board then presented Rebecca with a gift card to Seagull Book. Our gift exchange this year was "White Elephant" and it was lots of fun. LeeAnn then drew tickets for the party decorations, she had a lot of gifts to give so everyone left with a prize. As a finale, Glenda then drew raffle tickets from the "Didn't Win" sack for the special prizes. Terry Pulver won the surprise gift, which was a Quill brush; Tirzah happily accepted the Mary Jane Todd Certificate and Rebecca won the Judy Morgan sample board as the grand prize. Since you had to be present to win, a number of tickets had to be drawn in order to give the prizes away.

We missed everyone who was absent and hope you will join us next year.

Please remember chapter dues of $15.00 are/were due by December 31, 2009. On January 1, 2010, they will be $20.00.

I am sad to announce our grant request was not accepted. Mickey deserves a big "Thank You" for spearheading this effort.

Several teachers have already committed for Paint-ins for 2010, however, we still have a few teaching slots that you could fill. If you have a project or a new technique that you would like to share with our members, please contact me. For those who were at the Christmas Party, please let me know if you want to paint any of the project that were on display.

Seminar teachers for 2010 are Mary Jane Todd and David Jansen and maybe a surprise here and there.

See you the January Paint-in.

CarolAnn

Elections results were announced at the December Christmas Party. Thank you to all who assisted in the election: Rosina for contacting members, Glenda for preparing and mailing the voting forms, everyone who responded (over half of our members), Terry for collecting the votes, Sandy and Pat for counting the votes, and last but certainly not least, everyone who ran for an office.

Member Mention
Marie Whitehouse , a long time member of our Chapter, passed away Sunday, December 6th. Services were held in Marie's memory on December 12th at St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Haven.

Raffles
Our 1st VP and Raffle Coordinator, Glenda Mitchell, will once again be asking vendors to donate gifts for our seminars this year. She is also asking members to bring raffle items for our Paint-ins. The items do not have to be painting supplies. Plants and flowers are especially welcome in the winter.

Dues
Yes, it's that time of year again. I'm sure most of you have received notice from SDP about your national membership renewal with your last Decorative Painters magazine. National dues need to be postmarked before December 1st to avoid their $5 postage/handling fee. (Pay SDP dues directly to the Society.) Please pay your local dues ($15) to the treasurer by December 1st to avoid our $5 late penalty (accrued after January 1st). Checks can be mad out to Golden Spike Decorative Painters and mailed to the Chapter at 1037 W. 4600 So., Riverdale, Ut 84405.

This year we are asking all members to show their 2010 SDP membership card to the 2nd VP Nancy Coley. (You'll get a free raffle ticket for your effort.) There were some problems with Nationals records last year. They showed people who were not members and did not show other who were. We would like to keep our records correct.

The sign up sheet for Glenda's January silk scarf class is on the front table along with the prep instructions, pattern and scarf. The sample tin for LaRae's February Strokework project is also on the table, along with sign-up sheet. March will be the Mary Jane Todd Seminar, and we will start taking a count of people who plan on attending.

Rebecca called our attention to the other items on the front table. These are potential projects for next year. She urged us to check them out and then let the new president know what we would like.

Next, the 2010 Board as announced: CarolAnn Smith, President; Glenda Mitchell, Vice President; Nancy Coley, Second Vice President; Gloria Eldridge, Treasure; Lydia Gossett, Secretary; and Rebecca Chaffee, Past President.

Rebecca then thanked everyone who had worked for the Chapter this year: the Board-Glenda, Tirzah, Nancy, CarolAnn, Mickey, and Terry; Seminar Chairwomen-Nancy and Tirzah; Election Committee-Rosina, Glenda, Pat and Sandy; all our great Paint-in teachers-Carol Wilson, Lisa Peck, Hazel Rimmasch, Julie McFadden, JoLynn Johnson, Tirzah Probasco, Eileen Barnard, and Nancy Coley; Appreciation Tea hostess-Mickey; and Christmas Party Chairwoman-Lydia. She also thanked all the members who supported the Chapter with their participation. There would be no Chapter without them.

Time was then turned over to Lydia who introduced her daughter LeeAnn who catered the party today and LeeAnn's helper Carol Fredricksen.

After an absolutely fantastic prime rib dinner (which LeeAnn provided the receipts for), several games were played and prizes awarded. Then the "looser" drawings were made. Rebecca won the Judy Morgan "Chicken and Fruit Pie Box" sample board, Tirzah won the 1 day Mary Jane Seminar Certificate, and Terry won the "surprise" gift, a quill brush. It took several drawing to give these gifts away since you had to be present to win. Rebecca then gave all the members a gift from the chapter and she was given a gift from the members.

Next the table decorations were raffles off. Everyone left with at least one item. Finally the members participated in the "White Elephant" exchange. Everyone agreed that this was one of the best parties the Chapter has had.
