I would like you to share with us some of your ideas for paint projects you would like to paint and teachers you would like to have teach.
Also, please give me any ideas as to what Community Service projects that you would like to see your chapter participate in.

Hope
everybody had a Merry Christmas. Ours was especially great this year
as the family were all able to be there.
Thanks
and Happy Holidays to the men and women who protect and serve our
country here and abroad. If any of you have people who are in the
Armed Services and they didn't make it home for the holidays we hope
they'll be able to be here next year, and our blessings to all.

We
have some great classes lined up. In January Eileen Barnard is
teaching a fruit plate that is just gorgeous. Would like to see you
all there. Also check the blog site for other classes.
Our
April Seminar is a cupboard designed by JoSonja Jansen and will be
taught by Heidi England. This is a beautiful cabinet but the pictures
that are posted on the blog do not do the piece justice. If you are
interested in painting this piece we will have it available at our
January Paint-In. So take a drive and check this out in person or

The Board would like some input from the Chapter members about next year's Paint-ins and fall Seminar. What kind and style of projects would you like to paint? Who would you like as teachers? Would you willing to teach a class and if so, what would you teach? Please give this some serious thought. We are here for You. Contact any of the Board members with your ideas.
2014 Chapter Service Project
This year again, the Chapter will be continuing the Food Drive as our Community Service Project. Last year was very successful and we hope to do even better this year. Members are urged to bring items for the Food Bank to each Paint-in and Seminar they attend. (See our Food Bank Donations Guideline page for information on acceptable items or go the the Utah Food Bank web site for more information.) There is a lot of need, so we hope everyone will support this effort.

Basecoat the entire bowl with Cool Neutral. (I would recommend using a roller for this step so you will have some texture for dry brushing. I dry brushed the highlights instead of floating as Deanne did.) When this is dry, dampen the surface with clean water (I used retarder to extend my drying time) using a one inch wash brush. Rebase the inside of the bowl with the Cool Neutral. While this is wet and without rinsing your brush, pick up Black Green and blend this from the center of the bowl toward the rim using slip-slap brush motions. Next, pick up Avocado and blend this from the center outward on top of the existing Black Green. Pick up more paint as necessary to carry the green almost to the outside edges. Then pick up Titanium White and blend this from the outside edges in toward the center to lighten the outer edges. When dry transfer the design.
Basecoat the apples with True Ochre.
Basecoat the plums with several coats of Cranberry Wine so the plums are opaque. (You might want to mix some white into your first coat to speed the process).
Basecoat the grapes with Black Plum.
Paint the stems with Bittersweet Chocolate + Celery Green (1:1) using a no. 6 liner.

Wash plate well to remove all oil. Dry. Spray with neutral metal primer. Base coat the center of the plate with Unbleached Titanium, the inner rim with Green Oxide, and the outer edge with Wild Rose. Also the inner area where the floor of the pan meets the edge is trimmed with a narrow band of Wild Rose to cover where they come together. Apply the pattern.
The Paint-in will be held at the Westwood Village Clubhouse (1111 N. 2000 W., Farr West, UT).Take I-15 #346 and go north on 2000 W/UT-126 0.6 of mile. The Clubhouse is on the west side of the street with parking on the west side of the building.

Note: Heidi will be bring the paints for the seminar.
Seminar: (There is a limit of 25 people for this seminar.) A $100 non-refundable deposit must be paid by March 1st to hold your place in the class and pay for the wood. The balance for the seminar must be paid when the pattern and wood is picked up.
The Seminar will be held at the Riverdale Community Center, 4360 S. Parker Drive in Riverdale.
Directions from the North: Exit I-15 at 31st street and turn east onto UT-79 for 0.3 miles to the stop light at UT-79 and Parker Drive. Turn right on Parker Drive and proceed 2.0 miles south. The Community Center will be on the left, just past the fire station.
Directions from the South: Exit I-15 at Riverdale and go east to the first stop light. Turn left onto S 1500 W and proceed north for .5 mi. (Note: S 1500 W turns right slightly and becomes Cozy Dale Dr.) At the traffic circle take the 1st exit onto W 400 S and go east. Proceed to next traffic circle and take the 2st exit onto Parker Drive and go north. The Community Center will be on the right, just before the fire station.
Lunches are included in the seminar price. All lunches will include bottled water and dessert. Coffee and tea will be provided during the seminar.

Yes, it's that time of year again. I'm sure most of you have received notice from SDP about your national membership renewal with your last Decorative Painters magazine. National dues need to be postmarked before December 1st to avoid their $5 postage/handling fee. (Pay SDP dues directly to the Society.)
Notice: New this year, please pay your Chapter dues ($15) with a separate check made out to Golden Spike Decorative Painters and mail it directly to our Membership VP, Sandy Reeder, at 262 W. 5250 S., Ogden, UT 84405.
Raffles
The Chapter has two Seminars this year and if you have items you would like to donate to the Chapter, they would be much appreciated.
