2022 December Newsletter

Happly Holidays Everyone,

Our Christmas Partry will be Saturday December 10th at noon at the Union Grill in Ogden. We will have the Christmas raffle drawing for all who purchased tickets. There will be several other prizes for those in attendance. And we will have a White elephant gift exchange. So save the date and plan on joining us.

We are working on the schedule for next year. Already we have both seminars scheduled as well as several Paint-in classes. Keep checking the newsletter for more information. If you have ideas for projects or would like to teach a paint-in class, please let one of the Board members know.

The Club House at Westwood Village will be remodeled in January, so the only date we could use it is January 28. That is only 2 weeks before our scheduled February Paint-in. So the Board decided that instead of painting, we should use that time to meet as a Chapter to discuss our Chapter's future. As most of you know, a lot has been happened at SDP National in the last few months, and what happens to them will affect all of the Chapters. We encourage all of our members to attend the meeting on January 28th, and there will be Pizza for lunch. (See below for more information).

Ladies, make no mistake, this is important and we need as many members as possible to attend.

January
Chapter Business Meeting and Pizza Party
Date:       January 28th (Saturday) 10 am

The last few years SDP has been in financial trouble what with falling membership numbers, rising costs and internal problems. This year it became apparent that they could not continue as they had been and they have been looking into their options, everything from desolving both SDP and the Foundation to merging them onto one organization with reduced functions. We will update you with the infomation we have received and where things stand as of now.

What ever the results, all Chapters will be affected, but the future will mean changes. SDP has offered us some information about what we might expect and will need to do to. We will also share this information with you.

Then comes the most important part of the discussion: What do we as members want to do? Do we want to dissolve the Chapter or continue on in some other form, and if so what? These are important decisions that need to be made and the Board cannot do it without the input and approval of the membership. We need all of our members to participate. For those of you who can make it to the meeting, the Chapter will provide a Pizza lunch. If you cannot attend but want to participate, you can email me your concerns, questions, ideas and suggestions at (tpulver1@weber.edu) and I will present them to the membership. You will be missed, your voice will be heard, but you won't get pizza. To repeat---- Ladies, this is important and we need as many members as possible to attend.

The Meeting will be held at the Westwood Village Clubhouse (1111 N. 2000 W., Farr West, UT).Take I-15 #346 and go north on 2000 W/UT-126 0.6 of mile. The Clubhouse is on the west side of the street with parking on the west side of the building.

Winter Tree and Forest Friends

Teacher:     Helen Mahoney
Cost:           $7.50 (class fee)
Surface:      Watercolor paper (140 lb)
Date:           October 8th (Saturday) 10:00am
(setup and chat time 9:30-10:00)

Palette: Jo Sonja
Carbon Black               Colony Blue
Mouse                          Mustard Seed
Napthol Crimson          Pine Green
Warm White                 Brilliant Magenta

Prismacolor Pencils:

PC935.  Black              PC941 Light Umber
PC1022. Kelp Green

NOTE: If you don't have some of the Jo Sonja colors or Prismacolor pencils, Helen will have some to share.

Prep Instructions:

Trace pattern onto your watercolor paper (140 lb). I find it easy to tape the paper to a window (as in Carol Sphon's class) and trace.

Wet your paper and splatter with Mouse. This allows for the color to spread. Let paper dry for a moment and then pat excess water off the paper. This step may be repeated to achieve the affect you desire.

Note: This painting technique requires you to stay within the lines with very light washes of color. If you do go out of the lines, you need to have a damp towel or cotton swab to pat and remove the color from the area.

The Paint-in will be held at the Westwood Village Clubhouse (1111 N. 2000 W., Farr West, UT).Take I-15 #346 and go north on 2000 W/UT-126 0.6 of mile. The Clubhouse is on the west side of the street with parking on the west side of the building.

 2022 September Newsletter

Hello Painters,

We had an absolutely wonderful time at the seminar with Heidi. She is such a delight. We missed those who could not attend and so did Heidi. We had several people from out of state come and paint with us and we all enjoyed our time with them. Some people even finished the turkey. Way to go to all of you!!! The rest of us still have work to do, but it is worth every stroke. Nancy got some great pictures of the seminar and you can see some of them at the end of the Newsletter.

In September we will be doing a really cute Witch Banner with Tirzah. It is not too late to sign up. You will need to contact Trizah to make sure she has enough banners and bats.  Also note the change of date.  It is the 3rd Saturday -- September 17th

Helen will be teaching a Winter Scene in October and we will have a Cookie exchange. It should be both fun and tasty, so watch the newsletter for more information.
