2018 December Newsletter

Merry Christmas,

Well another good year will soon be behind us. I'm  hoping next year will be even better by seeing more of our members at the paint-ins and seminars that are scheduled.
Juanita Denton will start the New Year with a floral on a tin plate and Sheri Ringger will follow in February. Bill Bayer will be teaching an oil painting on canvas and we have lots of other good projects to follow.

It is the member's participation that makes a club. So come and join us.

I want to thank everyone who participated in the paint-ins and seminars and especially the Board Members for giving their all to make this Chapter a great one. Tirzah for finding teachers, Gloria for the treasury reports, Carol for the board meeting notes, Helen and Nancy for raffles, Terry for our Blog, and past president Pat for attending and her input on many subjects that have come up. Thanks ladies, your hard work is much appreciated.

I'm wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year to you and yours.

See you at the Christmas Party and next year as well.

Lydia

2019 Paint-ins
The Board would like some input from the Chapter members about next year's Paint-ins and Seminars. What kind and style of projects would you like to paint? Who would you like as teachers? Would you willing to teach a class and if so, what would you teach? Please give this some serious thought. We are here for You. Contact any of the Board members with your ideas.

2018 Chapter Service Project
This year the Chapter has been supporting the battered woman's shelter, Safe Harbor. The shelter accepts clothing, toiletries and money donations. The Chapter will collect money for the shelter at each paint-in and seminar and you can give other items to Helen, who will take them to the shelter. We hope everyone will support this effort.

Chapter Dues
Yes, it's that time of year again. I'm sure most of you have received notice from SDP about your national membership renewal with your last Decorative Painters magazine. National dues need to be postmarked before December 1st to avoid their $5 postage/handling fee. (Pay SDP dues directly to the Society.)

It is not to early to pay your 2019 local dues ($15). Checks can be made out to Golden Spike Decorative Painters and mailed to the Chapter at 295 W Ctr Street, PO 302, Willard, UT 84340.

Raffles
This year we would like to ask all members to bring a NICE raffle item. You will receive two Christmas raffle tickets for your item. Painting supplies like palette paper, brushes, and tracing paper are always welcome as are nice wood or metal surfaces. Other items could include potted plants and candy. If you would like to receive it, it will probably make a good raffle item.

Christmas Raffles
This year at our Christmas Party we will again be having special raffle. It will be an signed original bentwood box by John Dunn generously donated to the Chapter by Carol Hillier. The Decorative Painting world lost one of the most well known folk artists with the death of John Dunn last year. John painted in the Peter Ompir Style as well as his own style. His works can be found in museums, is highly prized buy collectors.

 Last Chance!!!
Tickets will be on sale from now until the drawing at the party. The cost is $1.00 per ticket. You do NOT have to be present to win.

April Bill Bayer Seminar
Bill “Ridley” Bayer began painting as a hobby in 1988. The following year he studied with Bob Ross and became a certified instructor of Bob’s wet on wet technique. He has since studied with many other well know artists developing his own style of painting. Bill has published five instructional books and three DVD's titled "Down Roads... Less Traveled" showcasing his talents. Bill uses his middle name “Ridley” as his signature. Ridley was also his grandfather’s name and Bill signs his paintings in “Paps” honor. Bill and his wife Fran live in St. Louis Mo and many of Bill’s compositions are inspired by the beautiful countryside surrounding their home. Bill paints in oils, acrylic and watercolor and travels across the country teaching the techniques he has learned.
