2012 May Newsletter

Hello Ladies,

Happy Spring to everyone!

We had a wonderful turn-out to our beginners paint class. All of the beginners did a great job painting their framed mirrors. Thanks to all of the sponsors, you did a great job. If you didn't attend, you missed a good class.

However, you can still join us for our fuiture classes. In May, Carol Hillier wil be teaching a Ukranian Floral (design by Jo Sonja) on a tin piece.You still have time to sign up. Contact Tirzah Probasco at 801 825-2660.

In the Fall, Sandy Aubuchon will be teaching a couple of one day projects. More on her classes
at a later date.

2012 Chapter Service Project
This year again, the Chapter will be continuing the Food Drive as our Community Service Project. Last year was very successful and we hope to do even better this year. Members are urged to bring items for the Food Bank to each Paint-in and Seminar they attend. (See our Food Bank Donations Guideline page for information on acceptable items or go the the Utah Food Bank web site for more information.) There is a lot of need, so we hope everyone will support this effort.

Cost:       $7.50 (class fee)
                Provide your own surface
Date:       May 26th, 10 am
               (setup and chat time 9:30-10:00)

Palette: JoSonja
Dark Red          Burgundy
Med Red           Napthol Crimson
Light Red          Napthol Red Light
Pink                 Rose Pink
Orange             Vermillion
Yellow              Yellow Light
Dark Green       Pine Green
Light Green       Pine Green + White + Yellow (1:1:1)
Medium Blue    Aqua + Burgundy (This color is optional)
Light Blue         Aqua + White (1:1) with small amount of orange
White               Smoked Pearl
Stems are        Yellow + Orange + Lt. Green (should look rust color)

Prep Instructions:
Paint the pot Black. Dry well before applying the pattern. I would suggest 24 hours. You can base in the border on the top and bottom. (or optional places) with Napthol Crimson + Burgundy. The burgundy does not have to be opaque. Trace pattern as desired.

The Paint-in will be held at the Westwood Village Clubhouse (1111 N. 2000 W., Farr West, UT).Take I-15 #346 and go north on 2000 W/UT-126 0.6 of mile. The Clubhouse is on the west
side of the street with parking on the west side of the building.



June
Summer Social
Date: July 1st (Sunday)  3pm

The Social will be held in Tirzah Probasco's back yard  (116 W. 600 N., Clearfield, UT). Take I-15 to exit #335 and go west onto 650 N., cross Main Street, take the next left onto James St., JamesSt. turns right and becomes 600 N. Tirzah's home is on the south side of the street.

Blackberry      Norwegian Orange
Teal Green      Indian Red Oxide
Vines             Mustard Seed
Geranium       Unbleached Titanium
Carbon Black

Prep Instructions:
Base coat the bottom of the plate with Blackberry and the  rim with Teal Green. Apply the pattern.

August
UFO's (Unfinished Objects)
Teacher: None
Cost:       None
                Provide your own project 
Date:      August 25th, 10 am
              (setup and chat time 9:30-10:00)

Bring an unfinished project and join us at the Clubhouse for a few hours of 'work' and socializing. Who knows, you might even leave with a finished object.

Christmas Raffle
This year at our Christmas Party we will be having a special raffle. The chapter has been given this beautiful signed original framed painting by Deanne Fortnam. Tickets will be on sale from now until the drawing at the party. The cost is $1.00 per ticket or 6 for $5.00. You do NOT have to be present to win. (Note: the painting is 10" x 11" )

President Lydia Gossett opened the Paint-in at 10:13 by introducing the Board members to and welcoming all of our 'Beginner' guests. She asked that all our guests write their name on the raffle tickets being handed out and returned to Pat. The Chapter had a number of beginner books that would be given to our guests, by random drawing, during the Paint-in. The Chapter also thanks Helen for the little candy boxes that she made, that are also our gift to each guest. Special thanks are also given to Eileen and Lydia for the treats that they brought for everyone today.

Tickets for the regular raffle are available from Pat and tickets for the Christmas raffle will soon be on sale. If any of our guests wish to join the Chapter, yearly membership is $15.

Sunday,July 1st at 3 pm, is the Chapter's Summer Social. All our guests are welcome to come. It will be held at Tirzah's home. The Chapter's Blog has the address and directions to her home.
