2024 September Newsletter
From
the Office of the President:
This
year I have been unconsciously writing with a collective theme
regarding our founding roots, heritage and legacy.
With
the past comes the present and with the present we try to predict and
anticipate the future. I say this to acknowledge and recognize the
many different generations within our own club and what these
different generations contribute. We have theTraditionalists,
Boomers, Generation X and Gen Alpha. Interesting enough we don’t
have Gen Y which is the Millennial group or Gen Z.
Generations
are named based upon the historical events that occur within that
time period.
Traditionalists
tend to be leaders, expect to be followed and respected. They are the
ones that laid the foundation for our technological advancements.
Traditionalists tend to believe that the answer lies within the
traditions of one’s community.
Boomers
believe in volunteerism and perhaps that is why the majority of the
board is comprised of Boomers. Boomers are patriotic and believe that
anything is possible including change. Boomers taught their children
to be independent.
Gen
Xers are resourceful and the first generation to use home computers.
They are
goal
oriented, independent and skeptical of authority. Gen X likes
structure and appreciates
regular feedback. Your president is a Gen X and loves your feedback.
Our
youngest member is Generation Alpha. Generation Alpha represents the
digital era and growing up during a pandemic. By the time our
Generation Alpha member becomes an adult, she will have shaped our
club with digital media. Generation Alpha will demonstrate different
social views, practice inclusivity and acceptance, at levels
exceeding the previous generations and will be highly educated.
Generation Alpha will leave its imprint on the club in a
transformative way.
I
mention the different generations because we all communicate
differently and hold values differently. But are we really that
different, or is it the path that we take to get to the same
destination different?
Our
growth, evolution and change will be incorporated into generational
norms. We can continue to hold onto some of the foundational pieces
that brought this club together while trying out what the young cool
kids are doing.
With
the generations there is always an alignment. You just have to listen
for it. No matter what generation you belong to, we are all hard
wired for connection and belonging.
Our
Vice President and myself have been very busy putting together some
creative ideas that we will begin to unveil at the September seminar
and at the Christmas party. It is our goal to incorporate heritage
and belonging into two projects that we have been working on. If you
are not attending the seminar, you will still be privy to the
September reveal. I can’t wait to share.
If
you are feeling disconnected from our club, reach out and we are
happy to help find a role for you. If there are topics that you would
like addressed in the newsletter, please email those to me.
Creatively
inspired,
LeeAnn
