Hello Painters,
Well I guess Fall is really here. The mornings and evenings are cooler and the colors in the mountains are just gorgeous. If you have a chance, take a drive to the hills and enjoy the beautiful palette of colors before it’s gone.
Talking about color; Our two day seminar went well. The colors in the two projects are soft and pretty. Sandy used a veiling medium on both projects. The second day project was a canvas board that was prepped the day before with a glass texture which gave the painting a very nice soft effect. Sandy is a wonderful teacher and lots of fun. We enjoyed her very much.
I want to thank the board members for all their help in making yet another seminar a success. Also all the participants for without all of you there would not be a seminar.
Thanks to all who donated raffle prizes.
This month Kristen Birkeland will be teaching a Christmas plate designed by Rosemary West. Come and join us and in November bring the plates back for a cookie exchange.
Glenna Neilson will be teaching “Winter Joy” on an anniversary box designed by Helen Barrick. It is a beautiful box. See our Blog for details.
The election for the 2013 Chapter board officers will be held during the October paint-in.
Please remember to bring a canned food item to our paint-ins to help support the food bank as it is our community project. Every little bit helps.
Happy Painting.
Lydia

2013 Paint-ins
The Board would like some input from the Chapter members about next year's Paint-ins and fall Seminar. What kind and style of projects would you like to paint? Who would you like as teachers? Would you willing to teach a class and if so, what would you teach? Please give this some serious thought. We are here for You. Contact any of the Board members with your ideas.
2012 Chapter Service Project
This year again, the Chapter will be continuing the Food Drive as our Community Service Project. Last year was very successful and we hope to do even better this year. Members are urged to bring items for the Food Bank to each Paint-in and Seminar they attend. (See our Food Bank Donations Guideline page for information on acceptable items or go the the Utah Food Bank web site for more information.) There is a lot of need, so we hope everyone will support this effort.

Prep Instructions:
Base coat the plate with Carbon Black. Use a sponge roller if possible for more texture. This makes drybrushing much easier. Drybrush a little blue in the sky area behind Santa using Pacific Blue and then Aqua + Titanium White. (You can use a touch of retarder if it is easier to blend--its just a tint behind Santa). Apply the pattern.
