2013 October Newsletter

Hello Ladies,

For those who may not have heard, our President Lydia was taken ill this last week and is still not doing well, so I am writing the update this month for her. Our best wishs go out to her.

The Seminar with Carl Larson was a great success and tons of fun. Carl is a great teacher. He took what looked like a very hard and complicated piece and broke it down into simple steps. He told us the history behind Swedish painting and gave everyone both a name tag and Dala Horse to paint, using them to 'warm us up' before starting the clock. Several people finished their clocks and the rest of us are not far behind. If you missed the seminar, you missed a very good time. This was Carl's first visit to Utah and he said he enjoyed teaching us as much we enjoyed having him. He was impressed with the skill of our painters and the interest and attention given to him as a teacher.

A special thanks to all the Board members who helped out with the food and the many other details that went into making the Seminar a success. Thanks also to those who attended the seminar and helped with the setup, take down, and cleanup. Congratulations to all those who won raffle prizes, Carl's demo boards, and especially Georgia who won the John Dunn painted tin in the special raffle. Carol Hillier graciously gave the tin to the Chapter for the seminar. So a very special thanks to her.

Chapter elections 2014 will be taking place soon. Please let Linda Williamson know if you are willing to run for one of the Board positions.

In October, JoLynn Johnson will be teaching a “Pumpkin and Swirls on a plate or piece of your choice. It looks like fun, so come and join us.

In November, Helen Mahoney will be doing Glass Block painting and we will have a Cookie Exchange so be thinking about what kind of yummy cookies you can bring.

See you next month.

Terry

2014 Paint-ins
The Board would like some input from the Chapter members about next year's Paint-ins and fall Seminar. What kind and style of projects would you like to paint? Who would you like as teachers? Would you willing to teach a class and if so, what would you teach? Please give this some serious thought. We are here for You. Contact any of the Board members with your ideas.

2013 Chapter Service Project
This year again, the Chapter will be continuing the Food Drive as our Community Service Project. Last year was very successful and we hope to do even better this year. Members are urged to bring items for the Food Bank to each Paint-in and Seminar they attend. (See our Food Bank Donations Guideline page for information on acceptable items or go the the Utah Food Bank web site for more information.) There is a lot of need, so we hope everyone will support this effort.
