2015 November Newsletter

Hi Painters and a Happy Thanksgiving

THOUGHT FOR THE MONTH
Life is bringing you opportunities to shine. Chances to wow people with your talents. To be recognized for your abilities. To be rewarded for your efforts. To be respected, admired and appreciated for who you are: someone who has always had so much to offer, and now has even more!”

CONGRATULATIONS to our new officers: President, Pat Reeder; 1st VP, Eileen Barnard; 2nd VP, Nancy Coley; Treasurer, Wendy Ouellette; and Secretary, Lydia Gossett. The best of everything to these ladies for their contribution of time, etc. to the chapter for the next year.

For those of you who didn’t attend the Rosemary West Seminar, we missed you. We had a great time painting and visiting with Rosemary. She is a very delightful lady and hope we can have her back soon. Thanks again Rosemary for a wonderful project.

Please be sure and check out our blog sight for the projects we have scheduled so far for this year. There is a great cookie plate coming up in November. Be sure and get registered by contacting Tirzah at 801-825-2660 and don't forget your cookies!

Don’t forget to sign up for the Christmas party which will be at the PRAIRIE SCHOONER Saturday, December 5th at 3:00 p.m. We need to know how many will be attending, what you would like to eat and receive your payment before the party. Please phone Terry (801-731-64250) or e-mail her at (tpulver@weber.edu) by November 28th. We’ll look forward to seeing you there.

Remember that we would like to hear from all of you regarding what you’d be interested in painting this year, what class you’d like to teach and what office you would like to run for in next year’s elections. Heads up ladies “WE NEED YOU”.

Hope we see you soon and may God bless.

Gloria

2015 Chapter Service Project
This year the Chapter will be trying something different for our Community Service Project. Instead of bring food items (which we so often forget) for the Food Bank, we will have a donation box where people can drop in spare change or a dollar or two. You'd be surprised how quickly little bits can add up. There is a lot of need, so we hope everyone will support this effort.

Dues
Yes, it's that time of year again. I'm sure most of you have received notice from SDP about your national membership renewal with your last Decorative Painters magazine. National dues need to be postmarked before December 1st to avoid their $5 postage/handling fee. (Pay SDP dues directly to the Society.)

Please pay your local dues ($15) to the treasurer by January 1st. Checks can be made out to Golden Spike Decorative Painters and mailed to the Chapter at 2825 W 5875 S, Roy, UT 84067.

Palette: JoSonja
Brilliant Green         Red Violet
Carbon Black          Seedlings
Gold Oxide             Titanium white
Marigold                 Ultramarine Blue
Vermilion                Naples Yellow Hue
Wild Grape             Napthol Crimson
Raindrop                Yellow Deep

Prep Instructions:
Seal piece. I mix sealer in with my first coat of paint. I based the whole piece in Azure mixed with the sealer 1:1. The second coat shouldn’t have any sealer in it, or the piece will feel sticky. Paint area behind the flowers Azure. Paint area behind the butterflies Raindrop. The color behind the compass rose on the top is seedlings. The trim is wild grape. The small trim is Marigold.

Purple borders:
Mix a little white into wild grape and pull a straight stroke vertically all the way around.

Glaze the piece:
When finished base coating all these areas, Use blackberry to glaze color next to any place where the colors meet. To glaze it, side load in black berry and walk the color out. You may want to use retarder medium to give yourself time to walk it out. You can take a mop brush to soften it. Then take rain drop, gold oxide and/or vermilion and dry brush some highlights here and there all over the painted areas.

Transfer design to piece.

Please have the above complete before class.

The Paint-in will be held at the Westwood Village Clubhouse (1111 N. 2000 W., Farr West, UT).Take I-15 #346 and go north on 2000 W/UT-126 0.6 of mile. The Clubhouse is on the west side of the street with parking on the west side of the building.
