2017 June Newsletter

Painters,

“Every day is a new beginning. Take a deep breath and start again.”  Painting helps too!

Hope you all had a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day.  It was such a beautiful day to get outside and spend time with family and remember our fallen heroes.

Thanks to Judy Graham for teaching us the beautiful Zhostova piece.  I loved it and we had so many amazing pieces come out of the class.  Always a pleasure to have our ladies from down south come teach us painting with their outstanding talents.
Sign-ups for a 2-day (Jul 12-13) class with Lois Mueller and 3-day Bobbie Takashima class (Sep 19-21) are being taken now. Please get with Tirzah and secure your spot in class.  Please call your painting friends and extend an invitation to join us.  Classes are filling up so don’t delay and get your deposit sent in.
Don’t forget to SMILE and enjoy life.
Pat Reeder

2017 Paint-ins
The Board would like some input from the Chapter members about next year's Paint-ins and Seminars. What kind and style of projects would you like to paint? Who would you like as teachers? Would you willing to teach a class and if so, what would you teach? Please give this some serious thought. We are here for You. Contact any of the Board members with your ideas.

2018 Seminar
The Board has begun planning next year's Seminars and would like some input from the Members. Would you be interested in having Heidi England back again? She is willing to come and would design a project just for our Chapter. Please contact Tirzah (801-336-7900) ASAP because we need to schedule now for next year.

2017 Chapter Service Project
This year the Chapter will be supporting the Ogden Youth Futures, located at 2760 Adams Ave in Ogden. This community project provides shelter for homeless teens ages 12 to 18.The shelter accepts clothing, toiletries and money donations. The Chapter will collect money for the shelter at each paint-in and seminar. There is a lot of kids in need, so we hope everyone will support this effort.

Raffles
This year we would like to ask all members to bring a NICE raffle item. You will receive two Christmas raffle tickets for your item. Painting supplies like palette paper, brushes, and tracing paper are always welcome as are nice wood or metal surfaces. Other items could include potted plants and candy. If you would like to receive it, it will probably make a good raffle item.

Christmas Raffles

This year at our Christmas Party we will again be having special raffles. There will be an original watercolor by Juanita Denton and wonderful box filled with painting suppliesTickets will be on sale from now until the drawing at the party. The cost is $1.00 per ticket or 6 for $5.00. You do NOT have to be present to win.

Rosemaling Coast to Coast
Save the date: June 26-28, 2018 (Tuesday-Thursday)

An association entitled "Rosemaling Coast to Coast” has been formed to plan and execute a convention by the same name. We are extending an invitation to you to become a member of the association and assist in making this, our first rosemaling convention in Decorah, Iowa a huge success.

The venue will be Luther College, with everything in a very compact area. We have reserved a dorm that holds 250 people. Across the street from the dorm is the Main Building, which has 12 classrooms. Across the street from the Main Building is the Centennial Union where the vendors will be. Our breakfast and lunch will be served in this building, as will one special evening event. The rooms and meals will be very reasonably priced.

One evening we will have a special event at Vesterheim, "A Night at the Museum." During this evening we can view the 2018 National Exhibition of Folk Art in the Norwegian Tradition and tour the museum itself. It will be a unique event.

We will keep you updated on what is happening as we progress toward the convention. We will need many volunteers, before, during, and after the event. We will be providing a list of areas of tasks so you can select one or two that you would like to become involved with.

The first thing you need to do is become a member of "Rosemaling Coast to Coast". We already have over 20 members from the West Coast. To become a member send $15 with your name, address, phone numbers, and email address to Ruth Green, 309 1st Street, Decorah, IA 52101. Make checks payable to Rosemaling Coast to Coast. Membership is from the date you sign up through the first convention year of 2018.

The email address is very important. We would prefer to contact you using that method, because it would be much less expensive to use email than USPS for keeping you up to date. (If you do not have email, we will then mail information to you.) For additional information, please contact: Lois Mueller, nordic@mhtc.net or Betty Dowe, bettydowe@harmonytel.net
