2016 January Newsletter

Hi Painters,

As your new President, I would like to personally thank Gloria for a job well done as acting President last year.  Kudos Gloria.  I look forward to having her teach me the ropes of being President.  Also, welcome to our 2016 Board.  To keep us on our toes, please let us know of suggestions/ideas that will help make our Chapter better than ever.
I am looking forward to 2016 and the new classes we have scheduled for this year, from our monthly paint-ins to our two Seminars, April, Heidi England, and October, Lois Mueller.  Please check the dates and sign up so you don’t miss all the fun.
We enjoyed a terrific Chapter Christmas Party at Prairie Schooner, a super lunch, good conversation, fun games and lots of prizes awarded.  For all those who attended thank you, and for those who couldn’t make it, we missed you and look forward to seeing you in the new year.
NOTE:  Wendy will be teaching a JoSonja pattern this month.  Please sign up and enjoy her class with us.
We are sad to report the passing of one of our dear painters, Linda Allen.  We send our condolences to all her painting friends and family for the loss of such a sweet and talented lady.  May she paint the heavens for all to see.
PAINTERS:  We are still looking for teachers for our monthly paint-ins so if you have a project you would like to teach, please help us out and notify Tirzah at 801-825-2660. Thanks in Advance.
Have a healthy and happy January and please be careful out in that cold weather and icy roads.
Pat Reeder

Marigold                 Ultramarine Blue
Vermilion                Naples Yellow Hue
Wild Grape             Napthol Crimson
Raindrop                Yellow Deep
Azure                    Blackberry

Prep Instructions:
Seal piece. I mix sealer in with my first coat of paint. I based the whole piece in Azure mixed with the sealer 1:1. The second coat shouldn’t have any sealer in it, or the piece will feel sticky. Paint area behind the flowers Azure. Paint area behind the butterflies Raindrop. The color behind the compass rose on the top is seedlings. The trim is wild grape. The small trim is Marigold.

Purple borders:
Mix a little white into wild grape and pull a straight stroke vertically all the way around.

Glaze the piece:
When finished base coating all these areas, Use blackberry to glaze color next to any place where the colors meet. To glaze it, side load in black berry and walk the color out. You may want to use retarder medium to give yourself time to walk it out. You can take a mop brush to soften it. Then take rain drop, gold oxide and/or vermilion and dry brush some highlights here and there all over the painted areas.

Transfer design to piece.

Please have the above complete before class.
