 2023 January Newsletter

Happly New Year Everyone,

Our Christmas Partry at the Union Grill was a great success. Not only did we have a good turnout, but Wendy and Eileen joined us. It was great to see them. Good food and good company. What more can you ask for. The Christmas raffle drawing was won by Nancy Langford – lucky girl. Other prize winners included Nancy Litz and Lori Jennings. The White elephant gift exchange was fun and surprising as usual.

The Club House at Westwood Village will be remodeled in January, so the only date we could use it is January 28. That is only 2 weeks before our scheduled February Paint-in. So the Board decided that instead of painting, we should use that time to meet as a Chapter to discuss our Chapter's future. As most of you know, a lot has been happened at SDP National in the last few months, and what happens to them will affect all of the Chapters. We encourage all of our members to attend the meeting on January 28th, and there will be Pizza for lunch. (See below for more information).

Ladies, make no mistake, this is important and we need as many members as possible to attend.

January
Chapter Business Meeting and Pizza Party
Date:       January 28th (Saturday) 10 am

The last few years SDP has been in financial trouble what with falling membership numbers, rising costs and internal problems. This last year it became apparent that they could not continue as they had been and they have been looking into their options, everything from desolving both SDP and the Foundation to merging them onto one organization with reduced functions. A vote by the membership in December was in favor of combining the two orginizations. This process has begun but will take a bit of time to complete. As of December 31, 2022, The Society of Decorative Painters will no longer exist and the website, Facebook pages and associated email will no longer be active. The Decorative Painter's Academy and Certification Progams have been and will continue to be managed by the Foundation. Assets and liabilities of the Society will become the responsibility of the Foundation.

SDP has offered the Chapters some information about what they will need to do to if they want to continue as a independent club. We will share this information with you.

Then comes the most important part of the discussion: What do we as members want to do? Do we want to dissolve the Chapter or continue on in some other form, and if so what? These are important decisions that need to be made and the Board cannot do it without the input and approval of the membership. We need all of our members to participate. For those of you who can make it to the meeting, the Chapter will provide a Pizza lunch. If you cannot attend but want to participate, you can email me your concerns, questions, ideas and suggestions at (tpulver1@weber.edu) and I will present them to the membership. You will be
missed, your voice will be heard, but you won't get pizza. To repeat---- Ladies, this is important and we need as many members as possible to attend.

The Meeting will be held at the Westwood Village Clubhouse (1111 N. 2000 W., Farr West, UT).Take I-15 #346 and go north on 2000 W/UT-126 0.6 of mile. The Clubhouse is on the west side of the street with parking on the west side of the building.
